Mixer is free and easily available for use at Quixel’s web page. If you require assistance with setting up Mixer, you can view a step by step process below.
The downloaded installer can be launched to initiate the setup which will take you to the following options.
The user will have the latest version of Mixer available for download, sample mixes and new Smart Material packs published on regular intervals. Clicking on these options will show additional information on the right.
The installer will then guide the user to set up their Mixer folders’ destinations. The installer will confirm three different paths for the following three aspects during the setup.
- Quixel Mixer Application
- Local Library
- Mixer Files
Launching Mixer for the First time
When you will be working on your projects using Mixer, you may find yourself dealing with a lot of files and data. To help organize the content, Mixer uses two file paths each with their own purpose. These are:
- Mixer Files: This is where your Mixes, and the project folders that hold Mixes, will be stored.
- Local Library: This is where your asset library, with downloaded assets from the Megascans Library, will be stored. If you have an existing folder of assets from Bridge, for example, point to that folder instead. Setting this to the same folder as the Bridge Library will ensure that assets downloaded in each application will all be stored in the same location, and accessible by both. Depending on the number of assets and their resolution, this folder can be very large.
See the following page for more information on the folder structure Mixer creates on your drive.
