You can import 2D and 3D megascans assets from your local library as well as download assets from Quixel’s online library. You may also import custom meshes.
Importing Custom Mesh
You can import custom mesh from Setup Section.
Go to the Setup section and under Model Settings, you’ll find a drop down menu to select which type of model you wish to work upon. To import a 3D mesh of your choice, you can choose Custom Mesh. By clicking on the Custom Mesh type, Mixer will let you browse and load your custom 3D model.
Mixer currently supports importing of 3D meshes in the following formats:
- .fbx
- .obj
Importing 3D Asset
Similar to the process of Import Custom Mesh discussed above, if you select 3D Asset from the drop down menu you will be taken to the Local Library tab where you can select a downloaded Megascans 3D Asset. The 3D model will load with its associated textures assigned and ready to go. If you did not find what you are looking for after selecting 3D Asset, go to the Online section and browse for an asset best suited for your project and download it. It will then be visible when you select 3D Asset as described in the start of this topic.
Using the “Library” Menu
The Library Menu gives you several different ways of importing assets into Mixer.
Importing Assets From A Folder
Setting a target folder will help import all compatible assets to your Local Library. To do that, go to Library > Import Assets from Folder and browse to where your assets are located and click Open.
Importing Megascans Asset .zip Files
If you have downloaded Megascans assets from the website, the downloaded .zip files can be directly imported into your Local Library. To import these files into Mixer, go to Library > Import Megascans Zips. Browse to where your .zip files are located and click Open.
Importing Custom Surface
You can also import non-Megascans custom surfaces into Mixer. You’ll have to make sure that all the necessary maps are available.
Download All Acquired Assets
This option lets you download any assets that are associated with your account and have not been downloaded. You can use this feature effectively if there is a need to change machines or log into a different computer.
Go to Library > Import Custom Surface. Browse to where one of your maps are located and click Open.
Mixer automatically detects all the maps in the location you browse to when you select the first map on the screen below. This can be disabled by toggling the Auto Populate option. Click the folder icon if you wish to replace a certain map with another. When all maps are selected, click Next.
